What is Inlay and Onlay Restorations?

Inlays and onlays are custom made restorations that repair larger cavities in the back teeth when a simple filling would not be strong enough. An inlay fits inside the biting surface of the tooth, while an onlay also covers one or more cusps. They are usually made from ceramic or high strength composite and bonded to the tooth, which helps restore its original shape, function and contact with neighbouring teeth.
