Inlay | Onlay Restorations
What is Inlay and Onlay Restorations?
Inlays and onlays are custom made restorations that repair larger cavities in the back teeth when a simple filling would not be strong enough. An inlay fits inside the biting surface of the tooth, while an onlay also covers one or more cusps. They are usually made from ceramic or high strength composite and bonded to the tooth, which helps restore its original shape, function and contact with neighbouring teeth.
Why Choose Inlay and Onlay Restorations at Inci Dis?
At Inci Dis, we often recommend inlays and onlays when there is still enough healthy tooth to avoid a full crown. After removing old fillings or decay, we take a digital impression with an intraoral scanner rather than using traditional mould materials, which many patients find more comfortable. The restoration is then designed and fabricated in our lab using CAD CAM systems, allowing for accurate contacts, smooth surfaces and a precise bite that feels natural when you chew.
How the Process Works
For patients who clench or grind their teeth, inlays and onlays provide better durability than large direct fillings while remaining more conservative than crowns. Because much of the work is done in our own lab, we can reduce waiting times and, when appropriate, complete the process in a short series of appointments that fit into your travel schedule. Our team will also show you how to care for your new restorations and which habits to avoid in order to extend their lifespan.
