Retainers are appliances that hold teeth in their new positions after braces or aligners have completed active movement. Without retainers, teeth tend to drift back toward their original location due to the elastic nature of the surrounding tissues and habits such as tongue posture or grinding. Long term retention is therefore essential for protecting the investment you have made in orthodontic treatment.
